Going Green!

So the latest trend is to green these days, well for some of us going green was years and years ago. You see when I was in high school we were already recycling and we even had our own "Environmental Club". I lived in a small town that already had recycle pick up, hippie organic clothing stores, and a huge Farmers Market every Saturday and another day during the week, which I can't remember :( Anyway it's as if this is the new thing but when I was young(20 years ago) we were already taking steps to make our earth a better place to live.
I have taught my girls the importance of recycling and conserving energy. Oh, by the way our electric bill will be going up in price once again in March, Ugh, I am sooo tired of this!! Having to depend on a company for electric is tireing, but what would we do? A couple of things that we definetly do in our house to cut costs and conserve are *unplug everything in the house that's not being used (you are still pulling electricity even though you are not using the device) *use cold water rather then hot when possible *hang towels to dry, they are so expensive to dry because they take so long in the dryer( you can use a little drying rack, very inexpensive, place in laundry room or outside) * I light candles at night (just a few) and thats whats on when we are watching T.V. or reading *open windows when weather is at good temps *keep your thermostat low, you can always add socks and sweatshirts or turn fans on to circulate warm air out *reuse items when ever possible * buy from thrift shops, I love to do this, you can find such great deals!
There is so much more we can do to go green, it just takes effort. And as far as having the children follow along I would introduce things one at a time other wise they could get over whelmed with all the changes. Once your accustomed to it you can't help but to do the right thing. Trust me when we travel it's difficult to see that there is no recycle bin and you have something in your hand that needs to be recycled, what to do? right!?
Try to also ride your bike when possible. You would be surprised at how much we depend on our cars to take us on short little trips when we could have walked or ridden our bikes. Not only is it good for the environment but good for our health and our kids too! Remember kids learn by example. If you are not doing what you are preaching then what makes you think that your kids are going to do what your are saying? Lead by example. Go Green! By for now Mama Bakes, Organic!

Organic Chocolate Chunk Walnut Brownie, that sure is a mouth full! But so is this delicious brownie. It is more of a fudge brownie, not cake like. It's made to enjoy every morsel, each bite will require a small drink of milk to wash down! BEWARE: these bad boys are dangerous you can't just have one! ;)
It took me awhile to figure out the right recipe, you will not be disappointed!

World of Good.com by Ebay

I found this great site that sells all handmade earth friendly goods. There a some very unique items in this store, like *Makeup *Natural Soap *Hair Accesories *Bags *Jewelry *Toys *Art and much more. Our local Whole Foods store also sells some of these products. They have some categories that you can click on that helps in different ways like:
*People Positive

*Supports a Cause
Check it out I'm sure you will really like the uniqueness of some of these products. You'll be sure no one will have the same exact thing because it's not sold in a big box store.

Back from vacation!

Yay! I'm back from Christmas vacation!
We decided to go camping for Christmas break. My family and I camped at Yogi Bear in Waco,Georgia. The kids had alot of fun. They had bike carts. There was also a bounce house in the Ranger Station, and a movie and popcorn on most nights. Two big pools, one for the little kiddies,(too cold for now) two playgrounds and a Yogi Bear train.Yogi Bear even came out to meet the kids. Lots of fun! :D
It was a bit hard at times considering the weather was not on our side. We knew it was going to be colder because we live in warm Orlando,Florida and we were heading north, so the temps were going to be cooler. Well it sure was cooler! There were nights when we slept with our coats on,& double socks! Yeah, it was chilly. What made things worse was that it drizzled and rained. But overall it was an experience in itself.
Hope everyone had a great Holiday vacation! I'm excited to get back to baking! Yay! :D It's hard not being able to bake when you have so many ideas, it's hard to take a break! :(
I will be adding some new yummy organic baked goods, so check out my etsy page, let me know what you think. Ta Ta for now, mamabakesorganic!
